Due to the miserable weather and being rushed when I went to California to see my family a couple of weeks ago, I took fewer photos than I wanted. I am promising myself that the next time I go, it’ll be in the spring when I can go down the coast and take my time.

My first stop on the trip was Mount Shasta, a little sort-of hippy town in the mountains. The number of healing crystal or similar stores per-capita in Mount Shasta must be one of the highest in the country.

I was planning on staying at the local KOA campground, sleeping on an air mattress in the back of my Subaru. After checking in, I decided to explore the town a little bit. As soon as I parked downtown and got out of my car, I heard a hissing sound. I followed it to my front passenger-side tire, and of course, there was a large slash across the side wall. I picked up various tire-fixing items at a gas station, which slowed the leak a bit.

Knowing I would have to figure out how to fix my tire in the morning, I tried to put that out of my mind and checked out The Veterans Club, a great bar downtown with an awesome bartender.

I managed to get back to the KOA and stay there overnight. One thing I majorly underestimated was how cold it was going to get in the mountains at the beginning of November. Luckily, the local tire repair place was across the street, so I didn’t have any trouble getting to it.

A fun thing I found out is that you have to replace all four tires if you have a car with all wheel drive.

All of these photos were taken with the Pentax PC35AF-M using Cinestill bwXX film.
