Since the weather in Portland has been a bit dark and rainy for photography, here’s a throwback to the Kenton Street Fair that happened on August 18th, 2024.

Kenton is a fantastic neighborhood with a historic past. It started out as an independent farming community before becoming a company town owned by the Swift Meat Packing Company. In 1915, it was annexed by Portland.

Something which makes Kenton unique is that it’s one of the few “successful” company towns in the United States. Where most faded away or became economically depressed — often marked by riots — Kenton evolved, becoming a part of Portland while still maintaining its own character.

All of these photos were shot with my Nikon FM2 on Kodak Ultramax. My photography has improved quite a bit since August, but I still think some of these came out well. It will be fun to shoot this again in a few months and see the difference.
